- A child-headed family in Maglas was recently rescued by Zvishavane Youth Centre (ZYC) through the Midlands Aids Coordinating Organisation (MACO) after the poor family had gone for days without food.
The MACO health workers who operate in Maglas took the matter to ZYC having noticed that the family was in dire straits as the parents had abandoned it for South Africa.
The children were given some foodstuffs including maize meal and rice that were sourced by the ZYC and the local Member of Parliament, John Holder.
This was after the Junior MP for the area, Karen Chiwariro appealed to Holder to assist this vulnerable family.
The family comprises three boys, the eldest of whom was supposed to be in Form Six but there is no money for him to continue with his education.
The second is doing Grade Seven while the youngest is in Grade Two but both of them do not have school uniforms and shoes.
Speaking to TellZim News, Clifford Mugiya, who is the ZYC youth coordinator, said he was heartbroken when he saw the children.
"When we visited the family with the Junior MP, Mr Murenga and the teen mothers representative, Modina, I was touched by what I saw. Their skin shows that they are malnourished. The children are not healthy at all," said Mugiya.
They managed to get 25kg of rice and 10kg of mealie meal. The ZYC team also contributed some food stuffs and cash to help the family.local
