20 March 2017, Mwenezi – The decomposing body of a 38-year-old man, who had gone missing for almost two weeks after reportedly being swept away by a flooded Pambe River while coming from a traditional beer drink, was last week found floating in Musvosva Dam.
Police detectives attended the scene and Makuga was laid to rest at his rural home last Friday.
Passers-by saw the body, identified as that of Clemency Makuga of Sitera village under Chief Mawarire, stuck between rocks in the dam.
Though no police comment could be obtained, Chief Mawarire told TellZim News that on the fateful day, Makuga tried to cross the river while he was drunk.
"We think Makuga was drunk on that day because he had earlier been seen having some mukumbi (a traditional amarula brew). Before he was found dead, people were already suspecting that he was swept because his shoes were found at a crossing point along Pambe River.
"In his drunken state, Makuga might have underestimated the strength of the water and it appears he removed his shoes before attempting to cross the flooded river," said chief Mawarire.
