06 March 2017, CHIVHU - A 38-year-old man who raped her 14-year-old stepdaughter and escaped from police custody appeared before Chivhu Magistrate Fadzai Mutombeni last week and was slapped with a 13-year jail sentence for the two offenses.
It was the State's case that on November 4, 2016, the man, who stays in Mogligen, took advantage of his wife's absence from home and threatened his stepdaughter that he wanted to cut her throat.
He later followed the girl to the kitchen and dragged her into his bedroom where he raped her before threatening to decapitate the girl and her mother if she reports the case to anyone.
The girl, however, found courage and revealed everything to her mother the very same day when the two went to fetch water at the well leading to a police report being made.
The rapist stepfather was arrested the following day by two police officers from Chivhu but he escaped while still on their way to the police station after he had tricked the police officers that he be allowed to relieve himself in the bush.
The man was rearrested on November 20, 2016 by members of the Chivhu Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
