12 March 2017, MWENEZI - There was a heated brawl at Masogwe Primary School on Monday between a former teacher at the school, Maichani Chauke and the Free Zimbabwe Congress (FZC) candidate in the in the upcoming Mwenezi East by-election, Turner Mhango, over political differences.
Sources at the school said Chauke, who is also a former councillor in the area, visited the school and got into a political argument with Mhango – a teacher at the school.
It is said the fracas happened in the deputy head's office after Chauke cheekily told Mhango that his political allegiances were misplaced.
Sources said the two briefly exchanged blows before being pulled apart by other teachers.
"Chauke immediately telephoned the police informing them that he had been bashed by Mhango. Police details from Neshuro arrived at the scene but nobody was arrested," said a source.
When contacted for comment, Mhango confirmed the incident but could not be drawn into saying whether they exchanged blows or not. He, however, said Chauke's actions were a calculated move to spoil his political ambitions.
"When I visited the deputy headmaster's office to request for permission to go to the district office with some minutes, I found Chauke there. He was holding a book and he began to give me political lectures.
"He scolded me saying all other teachers at the school belonged to a single political party and we ended up pushing each other," said Mhango.
Repeated efforts by TellZim News to get a comment from Chauke were fruitless as his mobile was unreachable.politics
