- The Election Resource Centre (ERC) has called upon journalists to give their security top priority and uphold the highest forms of professionalism as the country hurtles towards elections next year.
Addressing news editors and journalists at a workshop on capacity building at Pakare Paye Arts Centre, ERC Technical Lead in Training and Outreach, Solomon Bobosibunu called for extreme caution.
"This is the most critical time. As we approach 2018, you need to be extra careful.  You must never venture into a hostile environment alone, just invite your colleagues from other media houses and know a way of retreat," Bobosibunu warned.
Zimbabwe Human Rights Association representative, Cynthia Manjoro urged journalists to vigilantly expose human rights violations without putting themselves in the firing line.
"Journalists bear the responsibility of enlightening us on matters of human rights violations. Citizens need to be provided with all the information they require," Manjoro said.
The workshop, which was attended by other stakeholders like Heal Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, saw journalists exchanging ideas on how to strike a balance between the serving the public interest and safeguarding their personal security.local
