MASVINGO
– Eighteen-year-old Shawleen Mazorodze, an A Level pupil at Masvingo Christian College, was crowned Miss Heroes Masvingo after beating 15 other contestants at a pageant held at Charles Austin Theatre on Saturday.
Mazorodze told TellZim News after her crowning that although it was her first time to contest in such a big event, she was confident of her chances.
"I was so confident that I will win. I mastered what the mentors taught us and that gave me the confidence," said Mazorodze.
Nineteen-year-old Trish Sibanda of Masvingo district was crowned 1st Princess while 20-year-old Tamara Joan Tembo of Mwenezi was crowned 2nd Princess, her second title after being crowned 2nd Princess at the Miss Independence Masvingo pageant in April.
Loreen Hama, who is Tamara's mentor and was Miss Masvingo and Miss Zimbabwe finalist in 2012, said she was happy with the results as they put Mwenezi district on the modelling industry map.
"I'm happy that Tamara has made it to the first three for the second time. It shows that talent is everywhere even in rural areas for most of these contests feature girls from urban areas.
Twenty-three-year-old Rudo Mukatyami from Masvingo was crowned Miss Personality while Bikita's Nyasha Chivaka was crowned Miss Culture.
Ministry of Youth Masvingo provincial head, John Mbizvo declared the outgoing Miss Heroes, Priscillar Muzondipeyi a Masvingo Youth Ambassador.
Of the 16 contestants, nine were from Masvingo district, three from Mwenezi and Chivi while Chiredzi, Zaka and Bikita had one representative each.
The girls made magnificent strides in 1960s wear, African wear, military wear, culture and evening wear.entertainment
