03 Dec 2017 -
High Court Judge Nyaradzo Munangati-Munongwa on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, granted an order allowing so-called aliens to go and register to vote provided they bring along their 'alien' branded identity cards, a birth certificate and proof of residence.
The court order came after human rights lawyer Denford Helimani of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) petitioned the High Court on behalf of Harare resident Sarah Kachingwe and two opposition parties; MDC-T and MDC-N seeking and order to compel the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to allow the 'aliens' to register as voters.
'Aliens' are people born of foreign parents whom Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede had consistently disenfranchised.local
