GWERU
- Newly-appointed thematic chairperson for the health department, former mayor Taurai Demo said all stakeholders must come together to improve the council's health delivery systems.
This comes after the city is still smarting from a typhoid outbreak which killed many people after being first reported towards the end of July.
"I want to thank you members for electing me to be the department's thematic chairperson    and I hope together as a team, we will work towards improving our city and the department of health. If we fail, we fail together because out efforts will determine the goals we set. So we need to work together to improve the city," said Demo said recently.
Speaking during the tour of Mutapa Clinic and Fire Station, City of Gweru director of health services, Samson Sekenhamo said the demand for services in the city had grown bigger due to an astronomical increase in the population.
"Demand for our services has increased in communities because of the increase in population hence there is need to construct more clinics and other forms of infrastructure in order to render services to all our people. Some of our facilities are now old as they were built a long time ago so we need new facilities.
"Here at Matapa Clinic, I am glad council managed to do some renovations especially in the maternity side; a development which improved efficiency in service delivery. We need to continuously work hard as a team to improve our facilities and build new ones," said Sekenhamo.
City of Gweru chief fire officer, Emmanuel Musemwa said council needed to get more fire engines.
"We prioritise the safety of the community and the city so our hope is to have the size of our fleet increased so that we will be in a better position to respond to fire incidences more efficiently," said Musemwa.local
