CHIREDZI- The community here is struggling to come to terms with the grisly murder of a security guard who was beheaded and his body set alight with tyres at a plastic recycling yard opposite Chiredzi Magistrates Court.
The police have since opened an investigation into the murder of Zvazvawa Salani (60) who was a security guard at Maria Mabasa Plastic and Scrap Collection site on the eve of March 26.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and said the now deceased had reported for a night shift at his work station where he was beheaded and his torso set on fire.
“The deceased was employed by a company called Maria Mabasa Plastic and Scrap Collection as a security guard. He was found murdered
“On March 26, he went to his work place as usual at around 18:30 hours to look after bales of plastics and scrap.
“The following day, his co-worker, Brian Mandisvita (28) came to relieve him in the morning and never saw him.
“He then reported to his boss who later made a police report and came to search for him.
“They saw blood trail leading into the fire, where the torso was being burnt using tyres while the head was found in a shrub nearby,” said Inspector Dhewa.
Maria Mabasa Plastic and Scrap Collection operates on an open space in the new medium density suburb stands of Melbourne Park.
The company deals with the collection of plastic waste and scrap material.
