The police, who had ruled out foul play on the death of Mitchel Musharu, saying they suspected drowning have turned around and opened a murder investigation after post mortem results are said to have shown indications that the girl could have been murdered.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the development saying the police now suspect murder on the death of Musharu after the post mortem results.

“Initially the police had ruled out foul play into the death of Musharu after the body was discovered without any physical injuries.

“Now that the post mortem results are out, it has been discovered that the cause of death was not drowning as initially thought. We have since opened a murder investigation,” said Inspector Dhewa.

He refused to shed light on the details of the post mortem.

The deceased, who went missing on April 17 at Nyika Growth Point, was found a week later in a disused septic tank by her parents who immediately notified the police.
